just dance

{dance like nobody’s watching via snippet & ink}

the offers of free dance lessons / consultations have been literally pouring in from all over the dc/md/va area. we need to come to a decision on whether or not to capitalize on one of these enticing offers or just commit to the slow sway for our short and sweet first dance. while we contemplate that decision, we want to know what your favorite get-up-and-dance songs are so we can float them to our fabulous dj!

so, tell us in the comments:
what are the songs that get you off your seat and on the dance floor?

    Dance songs?
    One of my personal favorites – Van Halen’s “Jump” not to be confused with the Pointer Sister’s “Jump”, which is also good for dancing and a wedding.

    I also think Beyonce’s “Put a Ring on It”, and the Weather Girls “Its Raining Men” would be great at a wedding. Pink’s “Get the Party Started” is good too.

    Then there are always the old standbys – these are the silly ones that gets even the most anti dancing guys doing at least a little somethin…
    1) Any “Twist” song by Chubby Checker;
    2) YMCA – The Village People;
    3) B-52’s “Rock Lobster”

    Oldies but goodies include:
    1) Anything by Elvis;
    2) Most stuff by Michael Jackson

    Good luck!

  3. MJ stuff for sure. And We Are Family is one of my faves…
    I’ll keep thinking…
    Oh, the Cha Cha Slide!

  4. Big Boi – “Shutterbug”

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. Get hair did
    2. Press repeat-one
    3. Press play
    4. Enjoy best reception ever

    Fun:

    “Dance to the Music” (Sly and the Family Stone)

    “Dancing in the Streets” (Martha and the Vandellas)

    “Shout” (Isley Brothers)

    “Electric Slide” (Grandmaster Slice)

    Lots of Grateful Dead songs are really danceable, as are many Beatles songs.

    Romantic:

    “Kiss Me” (Sixpence None the Richer)

    “Fields of Gold” (Sting)

    “Moondance” and “Brown Eyed Girl” (Van Morrrison)

    Bonus! Songs to Avoid at All Costs!

    “Lying Eyes” (The Eagles)
    “These Boots are Made for Walkin” (Nancy Sinatra)
    “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” (Jesus Christ Superstar)
    “White Wedding” (Billy Idol)
    Any blues song

    so I have been to like 35 weddings, most of them my cousins big catholic weddings… the key to a good party/dance floor experience is songs that everyone can dance too… and by everyone I mean the aunts, uncles, grandparents and grandchildren… here are a couple songs that I have either seen work or am pretty confident will fill the dance floor…

    “I got a feeling” – Black Eyed Peas
    “Down” – Jay Sean
    “hey ya” – Outkast
    “Come on ride the train” – Quad City DJ’s (very very cheezy but nothing funnier than seeing an entire reception connected at arms and hips)
    “Just Dance” – Lady Gaga
    anything Journey…

    Hope that helps kids…
